Our Approach

Judo for Children from 7yo

At Northampton Judo Club we believe that the best way to learn is when your child is having fun. We create fun tasks for kids to complete while learning the techniques of judo, self-defence instincts and values of friendship, respect and fair play.

Each task has been thought through by our judo coaches to improve the cognitive thinking, emotional health and physical development of your child.

Judo for Kids

learning values with fun

Judo is a great way for your child to learn self-defence and a positive approach towards sports. Not only that, but also to develop emotionally and socially.

Responsibility

During judo classes, we teach your child to be responsible for their health and others. Throughout the first lessons, we will instruct every child how to fall properly to avoid injuries before we start implementing throwing techniques. Our judo coaches approach every kid individually and make sure that students are confident with movements and properly skilled.

Knowledge

The word judo translates to gentle way and the motto it holds is “Jita-Kyoei” – Mutual Benefit” and “Seiryoku-Zenyo – Maximum efficiency with minimum effort”. We make an effort in expanding your kids’ knowledge and understanding of their physical abilities but also implement the philosophy of flexibility and life approach that judo teaches.

Fair Play

Following the rules and philosophy of judo and respecting opponents is very important in our club. Bees won't sting you unless bothered and as Judokas, we follow the same path. We teach your children never to attack but to use their gained skills in self-defence and defence of others.

How will your kid benefit
from judo?

While practising judo, your child will not only develop physically but also mentally and socially. Judos’ philosophy teaches about the flexibility that can be implemented not only during classes but also in every aspect of life. Our focus is not only to assist your kid in developing overall fitness and self-defence but also to improve their focus, build a positive attitude towards team play and a healthy response to failure.

Judo and physical health of your kid:

Judo is an exceptional choice of exercise for your kid as it builds healthy and strong muscles early on. Not only that, it’s a great way to implement cardio exercises, hence it improves their heart health and lowers cholesterol.

Children who participate in judo have a reduced risk of childhood obesity, heart problems, and osteoporosis. It also promotes and creates a friendly approach towards movement. Judo is a strong foundation for your children to become healthy and active adults who appreciate the importance of physical activity.

Can judo improve the emotional health of your child?

Judo is a martial art that encourages not only respect towards teacher and opponent, but most importantly, self-respect. While practising judo, players learn about the ‘gentle way’ philosophy that is the core of this martial art. It teaches us to give way and skilfully use the movement of the rivals rather than forcefully win over them.

Judo also advocates for a healthy and respectful approach towards failures. Northampton Judo Club and our coaches take an effort in creating an environment in which your child can thrive and gain trust, confidence and meet new friends.

In return, this nurtures your kids’ courage and judgment so they can grow as balanced and emotionally healthy young adults.

Judo and aggression issues:

Training judo gives your kid an excellent outlet for their energy while also discouraging violent behaviour. Our coaches teach your kids to respect those around them but also pay attention to details and learn self-acceptance. We create an environment in which players can express their emotions without judgment and are encouraged to manage them in healthy ways. We discourage engaging in aggressive behaviour and teach the kids to never get involved in bullying or fights but to use their gained skills in self-defence and defence of the ones in need.

Can judo increase the concentration of children?

Studies have shown that children who are hyperactive or who suffer from attention deficit disorders benefit immensely from the disciplined environment of judo. While practising judo, your kid will learn very detailed movements and will follow specific instructions from our coaches. This will allow them to gain skills that help them to focus on details and engage fully in tasks ahead of them.

Those skills and knowledge are helpful at school ad work as they grow.
