For those unfamiliar:

Tachi-waza in judo focuses on techniques like throws, sweeps, and takedowns performed from a standing position.

Ne-waza encompasses grappling techniques like pins, which are applied while both practitioners are on the ground.

While judo emphasizes tachi-waza, newaza is also a crucial part of the art, offering a complete skill set for judo practitioners.

Kids Judo Tachiwaza Program at NJC

Join us every Monday and Thursday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm for our exciting Kids Judo Tachiwaza Classes! Your child will train with our friendly Junior Assistant Coaches, Will and Danielle, under the guidance of Steve (1st Dan) and Yona (2nd Dan), who lead our Junior Program.

Each class is specially designed to help your child build strong judo skills and learn new techniques in a fun, supportive environment. We use a variety of training methods to keep every session interesting and help kids improve step by step.

Ready to Discover a New Way to Learn Judo?

Our Winning Fundamentals kids program isn’t just about practicing random moves—it’s a simple, step-by-step system that helps kids:

  • Learn throws clearly and confidently

  • Connect moves smoothly for quick and smart combinations

  • Create their own strategies on the mat

Have you ever tried a move that just didn’t work? Don’t worry—this happens to everyone. Sometimes it’s not about trying harder, but training smarter.

What Your Child Will Gain in the Tachiwaza Program:

  • A strong foundation to make learning new throws easier and more fun

  • Understanding the reasons behind each move, so they can adapt and improve

  • Muscle memory through fun drills and games that help build skills naturally

  • Confidence to use techniques well, even under pressure

  • Ability to link moves together smoothly, going beyond single throws

  • Tools to develop their own style and match strategies

If your child wants to train smarter, have more fun, and grow into a confident Judoka ready to compete, our Winning Fundamentals Kids Tachiwaza Program is exactly what they need!

And here’s the best part — our two Junior Coaches, Will and Danielle, are both homegrown teenagers from NJC themselves, bringing fresh energy, relatable experience, and genuine passion to every session!

At NJC, we offer the most fun, engaging, and interactive Judo classes for kids in Northampton — where learning meets excitement every time they step on the mat!
